Service Transport isn’t just about making a profit and providing exceptional customer service. We’re also about building communities through service initiatives that improve the quality of life for our neighbors.
Our signature community service project is the Bonnie Hilghman Cancer Fund. Through this initiative, Service Transport’s employees, vendors, customers, and friends seek to memorialize the strength and courage that Bonnie displayed throughout her time with us.
Bonnie’s fight with cancer began in the 1970’s, when she was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Disease. Five years later, she was provided a clean bill of health and we thought her battle with cancer was over. In 1997, she was diagnosed with breast cancer. Three years later, Bonnie was diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer that had spread to her liver. Although Bonnie received a prognosis of 12-18 months left to live, she endured 4 years of chemotherapy in her last fight against cancer. During the time that God left to her, Bonnie touched many lives by providing support for other cancer patients and their families. One of her greatest blessings was the strength to endure her own problems with cancer throughout her life, and she freely shared that blessing with cancer patients throughout the community in a variety of ways.
Through the Bonnie Hilghman Cancer Fund, we hope to continue sharing Bonnie’s courage with those whom must fight their own battle against cancer throughout the Mid-Shore. It is professionally managed by the Mid-Shore Community Foundation. Our mission is to provide the funding that helps other 501(c)3 agencies provide services to cancer patients.
